from my unpublished second collection
1.
Under the sniper’s watchful eye —
a snowfield
without tracks or footprints.
2.
Then over the banks to grandma’s house, by sandbags left over from last year’s final stand,
a mailbox lashed to a pop machine in place of the courtyard gate.
3.
Raven grilled
or raven stewed.
The only wealth worth having is cabbages and guns.
4.
Boundless snow.
